Blue Heron

As Wolfie and I walked along Buffalo Creek we scared a Blue Heron. At first we didn't see the bird but we both jumped when we heard a very loud croaking sound. Then we saw it as it flew up and perched in a tree about 50 yards down the trail.. It just stayed there and looked at us as we walked by the tree. It must have felt safe enough as it was some 30 feet about the ground.

I got out my Cannon EOS Rebel T2i with its 55-250mm zoom and just started to shoot. I spent about 10 minutes around the tree but the the heron just stayed put. My guess is that it must have a nest with some babies near by and was protecting them by keeping a eye on us.
